Ike Foundation Scholarship winners announced

The Ike Foundation, operated by Mike and Becky Iaconelli, recently announced the names of its five scholarship winners for 2024.

The applicant pool consisted of 225 high school seniors from across the country with a grade-point average of at least 3.2. Students were required to submit letters of recommendation, a high school transcript, a college acceptance letter and an essay that answered the following question:

“How has your fishing or outdoor activities helped you become more aware of environmental issues? Please share specific examples where these activities made you think about the environment and explain how these examples influenced your views on conservation and sustainability.”

The foundation conducted a blind review of all applications and essays and scored submissions based on a predefined point system. Each winner will receive a $2,200 scholarship to the college of their choice.

The five winners are listed below along with their intended majors:

Isaiah Atoe – Fisheries Management – Dallas, Texas
Alexandra Carson – Television and Film/Documentary – Joplin, Mo.
Edmund Cain – Environmental Science or Geological Engineering – Las Vegas, Nev.
Ojas Shah – Mechanical Engineering – Bloomington, Ill.
Isabella Villalobos – Rangeland, Wildlife & Fisheries Management - Universal City, Texas
