RE: FFS poll – Limit use to one transducer.

  • Patrick W. Ross of Bella Vista, AR writes:

RE: FFS poll – Fishing with FFS requires little to no actual fishing skill. It is nothing more than an advanced video game. The only skill required to find fish is watch the screen. Can they skip a jig under a dock, walk the dog with a Spook, or any of the other skills required to be a complete angler? If they are "elite" anglers they don't need to use FFS.

  • Mike Hawkes of Sabinal, TX writes:

RE: FFS poll – As much as I dislike FFS in tournaments, I hate to see the government involved in regulating us at all. The tournament organization needs to limit its use. State agencies need to manipulate the bag limits to prevent depleting the resource.

  • Chris Barrett of Ontario, CAN writes:

RE: FFS poll – Bass tournaments should be a measure of anglers' ability to read water and use their instincts to catch fish in a tournament ... FFS contradicts these traits. All mainstream sports have equipment committees to determine if a piece of equipment conforms with a sport's traditional intention for play. The big circuits should have had a policy in place – anglers cannot catch fish using technology that enables an angler to see fish in real time. FFS is too much technology for this game.

  • David Harrison of Huntsville, TX writes:

RE: Surman's Elite quest – Great article and interview with Mike! Thanks, John! Being 60-plus myself, I'm pulling for him to make it.

  • Gary Pryor of Gallatin, TN writes:

RE: FFS poll – Ban forward-facing sonar, it is killing our sport! Most of the high tech that has come out in recent years is taking away the outdoor experience, the thrill of being in nature and relying on your instincts and experience. I don't have to catch fish to enjoy a trip outdoors. It is the sounds and smells and sights I encounter that are memorable. In today's world, fish don't account for much and are being used as pawns in a video game of greed chasing a dollar. Sad.

  • Charlie Frisbee of Raleigh, NC writes:

RE: FFS poll – I would like to see FFS banned. I have one installed on my Ranger and I use it sometimes, but it takes the real fun away from bass fishing. I will gladly remove it if North Carolina would ban FFS.

  • Jerry Burkhart of Belpre, OH writes:

RE: FFS poll – I am 78 and I don't have it on my boat, but I don't care if fisherman use it. If you fish big tournaments, you'd better learn to use it. I am a B.A.S.S. Nation fisherman and guys use it, so i don't mind.

  • Mike Giardini of Freeport, IL writes:

RE: FFS poll – I cannot afford this stuff, but you still have to be able to find and catch fish. Besides, I fish shallow, so this should leave more fish for me as I see FFS as an off-bank deal mostly. Let's not go to to a "keep off my lawn" program.

  • Ralph E. Haggard of Wolcottville, IN writes:

RE: FFS poll – No more than five units should be allowed – three front, two back.

  • MIKE Edward Jones of Okeana, OH writes:

RE: FFS poll – Ban it from all fishing.

  • Chris Mahfouz of Gilmer, TX writes:

RE: FFS poll – No to FFS in Bassmaster and MLF tournaments.

  • Kenneth D. Nellis of Bentonville, AR writes:

RE: FFS poll – I am against FFS. It gives too much advantage to the fisherman. Just like the PGA and NASCAR, we need to limit this in order to keep our sport competitive. For those trying to enter into tournament fishing, this gives those with monetary resources an unfair advantage. I know just because you see fish doesn't mean you can catch them, but the percentages of those that can be caught go up dramatically.

  • Richard Correll of Webb City, MO writes:

RE: FFS poll – FFS should be banned in tournaments due to its detrimental effect on the fisheries. A large number of fish caught at great depths will die due to pressure problems with their swim bladder.

  • Paul Wallace of Cambridge City, TN writes:

No dog in this ban, but if Wisconsin wants to restock their lakes, just ban the ordinary flasher – Vexilar and Marcum – during ice fishing. Most ice fisherman won't go without one, including me. These have been showing real time lure/fish for decades and are still as deadly for vertical fishing as ever.

  • Charlie Frisbee of Wendell, NC writes:

RE: Balog on Wisconsin FFS survey – I do hope Wisconsin follows through and bans all types of FFS and I hope it resonates to other states. I have FFS on my boat, but will willingly remove it. I prefer old-school bass fishing as much more fun.

  • Susan Peralta of Rancho Mirage, CA writes:

RE: Balog on Wisconsin FFS survey – Great article, Joe. Thanks to the state of Wisconsin for bringing this issue to the forefront. The most important line is in the last paragraph: “the big pockets of the electronics companies.” So it’s up to us. You can be a pawn for the industry selling this nonsense or you can be a good angler and put our God-given resources first. “Where money rides, the devil lies.”

  • Joe McKinnon of Waltham, MA writes:

RE: Balog on Wisconsin FFS survey – It will be impossible to enforce. The three big electronics manufacturers will fight this. This will cost them mega millions.

  • Bill Crumrine of San Antonio, Texas writes:

Regarding Joe Balog's article on forward-facing sonar, I stand with him and Hank Parker. Between land developers and computer geeks, I am infuriated to the Nth degree. Why can't people just leave well enough alone? I still have a working 1985 Lowrance Flasher unit and plan on using it, until either I or it dies. Why keep complicating things? This nation is becoming to technologically dependent.

  • David Harrison of Huntsville, TX writes:

I saw an article about Carl Jocumsen's tournament kayak. So much for the beauty and simplicity of kayak fishing! Crazy! Multiple screens, FFS, 360, etc. I bet his kayak costs more than my 18-foot Ranger. Is this really bass fishing now? Not a knock on Carl, but this is ridiculous. How many can afford to enter kayak tournaments if this is now required to compete?
